The Rest Challenge

A two- week challenge to learn how to actually rest.
For the people who are good at getting things done. And not so good at resting.

Starts Monday, November 2nd.

As seen in

If you only stop when your body makes you, this is for you.

You scroll until midnight and call it unwinding, or try to take the weekend off but feel so weird and uncomfortable about it you would rather just be working. You wonder what’s wrong with you and why you can’t just turn your brain off and relax like other people seem to be able to.

The Rest Challenge is 14 days of short daily lessons that help you understand why rest feels so hard and then build it into the life you already have. You don’t need to quit your job or move to a goat farm. You just need a few minutes a day and some honesty with yourself.

What to expect

Every day for two weeks, you’ll get a short video from me, usually 2-4 minutes. I really want this to be something that’s manageable for you to incorporate into your every day life.

There will be an accompanying journal with reflection questions and prompts. I know that for some of you, journaling feels overwhelming and unhelpful. If that’s you, no worries, the journal is absolutely not required.

You’ll also be in a private Slack community with everyone else doing the challenge. I’ll be in there every day answering questions and talking with you.

What we’ll cover

01

Why rest feels so hard

We start with why burn out begins in childhood. Then we look at the difference between resting and numbing out.

03

Doing it in real life

This is where rest starts fitting into your life, in two-minute and ten-minute segments, not just a week-long vacation. You’ll learn how to interrupt the overworking cycle while it’s happening.

04

Making it stick

Changing how you rest (or that you rest at all) can bring up more than you expect, including questions about who you are when you’re not producing. We’ll talk about that, and about what to do when you fall back into old patterns.

02

Your own rest patterns

Sleep is only one kind of rest. You’ll take an assessment to find where you’re most depleted and use it to build your own rest menu. You’ll also learn what running low looks like for you, so you catch it sooner.

ADD AT CHECKOUT

Add a small group call

$100, limited to 10 people. Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm Central

At checkout, you can add a one-hour live, small group call with me. I’ll share more of my story and how I build rest into my own life, and you’ll be in a room with people doing the same work. It’s good company and good accountability for keeping this going after the challenge ends.

This is for you if you’ve ever…

fantasized about needing a small(ish) surgery so you could go on medical leave

woken up in the middle of the night thinking about your to do list

were called things like “responsible” and “mature for your age” as a kid

done the whole group project by yourself

listened to a podcast at 1.25x speed to make your shower more productive

felt guilty sitting on the couch while someone else was working

Two weeks to understand your burn out and try something different

  • You've downloaded the meditation apps

  • Tried the yoga class

  • Bricked your phone

  • Promised yourself you’ll go to bed earlier tonight.

Maybe some of it helped for a day or two. Or maybe it made you feel even more anxious and guilty than you did before.

We'll look at why rest feels so uncomfortable for people who are used to doing everything well, the difference between actually resting and just numbing out, and a few small, doable ways to rest that fit your real life.

Hours in the therapist’s chair

Hi, I’m Elizabeth, a therapist who specializes in rest

I'm a therapist, and for a long time I thought rest meant just doing nothing and I was terrible at it. Six years ago, I was working 55+ hours a week for someone I was desperately trying to please who didn't care about me at all. When I finally realized the cycle I was caught in, I was shocked by how hard it was to stop. I realized then that I had no idea how to allow myself to actually rest. So I went on a mission to learn everything I could about it and begin to actually implement it into my life. Learning how to actually rest changed more for me than any productivity system ever did, and now it's the thing I most want to share.
